Karen Burton
Hi, I’m Karen the editor and designer for our ILFM Members’ magazine, the Legal Abacus.
I have been with the ILFM since 2012 when I joined as the editor for our Legal Abacus magazine, which is unique as it goes to all our members as both digital and print. A graphic designer too, I work on our other publications and graphic material to ensure a solid brand identity is seamless.
Overseeing the Legal Abacus is really enjoyable as I get to speak to many experts in the field of law, finance, legal technology, compliance and regulatory bodies for guest editorials. As long as we add value to our members’ working lives, then I feel I am doing a great job!
Before joining the ILFM I worked for a major construction consultant as PA to the Chair, moving onto marketing working with branding, bid and content production, and putting together brochures and other literature. I also developed and managed the company intranet.
My wider background often had a link to law and at one stage I embarked on CILEX studies before redundancy redirected my path.
Like our student members, I have always been studying and taking exams whilst working; so, understand the dedication and effort required to fit it all in and how important it is to have a support community to turn to when queries arise.
In my spare time I do quite a bit of gardening and hold a diploma in garden design and RHS certificate in horticulture. I am also a big fan of yoga and practice 3 times a week.
